Rice Idli

Recipe: Rice Idli

  • One cup uradh dhal
  • Three cups idli rice
  • One cup poha/avalakki
  • Soak idli rice and uradh dhal separately for about 6 to 8 hour
  • Soak poha with just enough water half an hour before grinding 
  • Grind the uradh dhal first to fluffy consistency adding little water , then grind rice and poha together with some water
  • Mix the batter well together with salt using your hand(it makes difference) 
  • Leave it for fermentation overnight at least for 12 hours in oven with just light on...
  • You will have nice fluffy batter ready by morning 😊

Tips: 

  • Just couple of tips...while adding water to grind the rice..just be mindful...not too much so that it's not watery...if add too less , idlis will turn out little hard.
  • I also add few methi seeds (1tsp) along with uradh dhal. 
  • Idli rice ..I get it from Jaya or Turga stores
  • The duration to keep for fermentation varies slightly with season..I have given rough ball mark.
  • Use warm water while adding water to grind...that will aid in the fermentation process
